Hi! I am Maveryck, a queer Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Denver, Colorado.
I graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelors in Science and earned my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver Graduate School of Social Work. During my education, training, and previous jobs, I have worked in a variety of settings, ranging from community mental health case management in rural Vermont, working at a low barrier shelter for adults experiencing homelessness, providing group therapy to adults at an eating disorder partial hospitalization program, to completing social work research, working with individuals facing felony charges to identify mitigation, and to provide therapy services. My wide range of experience helps me to meet people where they are at and integrate multiple perspectives and trainings in our work together.
Throughout my time in the social work field, I have learned that we cannot truly unpack and process our stress, trauma, thoughts, and feelings if we do not integrate a systems level perspective that not only takes into account the variety of factors in a person’s life such as work, relationships, income, living situations, and more, but that we must acknowledge the impact of politics, oppression, and a person’s unique experience in the world based off their identities, abilities, and culture(s).
In order to heal, we need a space that is rooted in anti-oppressive practices and liberation. A place where you can find a sense of belonging. A place that your identity and experiences are affirmed. A place where you can talk about the weight of politics on your life, a place where your provider centers your identity and experience. A place where you can be seen and start your healing. I value and center anti-oppressive practices and liberation for all.
A few central values and principles of my approach:
You are the expert in your life and I am here to guide you on the path to healing and uncovering the answers that already reside within you.
Creating a space that celebrates and affirms who you are that doesn’t require you to educate your therapist on your identity.
There is no one way to healing. I utilize different skills, modalities, and approaches for your unique circumstances, goals, and needs.
Therapy is your space. You can laugh, cry, yell, cry, curse, whatever you need in that moment.
I am a human and do not minimize my humanness in our work. I believe relationships are a key foundation to healing, happiness, and thriving. I am not a blank slate therapist, I will laugh with you, grieve with you, and hold your worries, anxiety, and sadness with you.
About Me
I am Maveryck, a queer, and trans therapist with chronic illnesses that lives in Denver, CO. I have been in the social work field for over a decade! It is the work that I have found the most rewarding, as I enjoy connecting with others and helping folks on their path to healing, happiness, and feeling more connected and engaged in their world.
I moved to Denver in 2018 to pursue my Master in Social Work degree. Previously, I lived in Vermont for almost a decade. Colorado definitely has bigger mountains, but oh boy does Vermont have beautiful, untouched nature and community. Prior to Vermont, I was born and raised in northwest Florida. I am a Southerner at heart despite my missing southern accent. I have enjoyed living in several different areas of the country and experiencing different communities, cultures, and lifestyles.
Outside of work, you can find me playing video games with friends, doing crafts of many varieties (sewing, crocheting, drawing, pottery, and more!), weight lifting, and hanging with friends. I live with my dog and cat, who you will most likely see over tele-health!
